The Mississippi River at Wabasha, Minnesota stays open all winter, providing an ideal habitat for bald eagles. Even when they were rare and endangered, bald eagles congregated here in the winter and thousand of people came to view these majestic birds. This phenomenon grew to become what is today the National Eagle Center.
